One of the more colorful cities I've visited, Cartagena is full of history, spanish architecture and beautiful/colorful buildings. It was definitely the most touristic city we visited on this trip and doesn't feel like you're really in Colombia in my opinion. Throughout the trip I ended up in Cartagena three times, and I would heavily advise no more than 2-3 days in the actual city.
Cartagena serves as a base for branching out to different areas like day trips to the Rosario Islands, Baru, the Mud Volcano (can't remember the name), and Baranquilla is not too far, but you will have exhausted everything in the actual city after a few days.
